A major FMCG company in Middle East wanting to identify the technical and market implications of replacing glass bottles with multi-layer plastic bottles for a range of food products.
The Problem
Glass bottles suffer from serious drawbacks especially in hot filling applications. The client wanted to examine the technical, market and financial feasibility of replacing glass bottles with multi-layer plastics for their existing line of hot filled food products.
Our Approach
The study involved selection of a technology supplier from overseas who were market leaders in multi-layer blow molding plastic machinery. Existing imported brands in the market with multi-layer plastic packaging were identified and their product and price features were studied. Consumer perceptions were taken based on field research. Financial impact of this change over was analyzed.
Proposed Solution
A strategy to replace glass bottles with multi-layer plastics in a phased manner was suggested.
Outcome
The findings were accepted by the client. |
