| Traffic Forecasting Model |
Client
A leading port management firm wanting to determine the traffic and make forecasts of the traffic pattern for a new port to assess the economic feasibility of the port.
The Problem
Traffic forecasting studies are a vital element in any new port planning. Such forecasting studies are based on the socio-economic & industrial development of the region, potential port related developments and the predicted cargo flow patterns.
Our Approach
The study classified the hinterland of the port into different areas based on its connectivity with the port, analyzed the various category of goods being imported/exported, change in demographic pattern of the region, growth of commercial & infrastructure activity and other factors likely to influence traffic through the port on the basis of extensive field studies.
Proposed Solution
All the parameters identified above were factored into an econometric model to predict the traffic for firm, speculative and spill-over cargo under the most pessimistic, most optimistic and most likely scenarios for the next twenty years.
Outcome
The findings of the study were accepted. |
